First-year

Penn State defines first-year students as students who are applying to the University and who are currently still in high school. A first-year student may also be a person who has graduated from high school or who has earned a GED and who has not completed more than 17 college level credits after high school.

Additional Information

Penn State's 21 undergraduate campuses give students the freedom to grow in an environment that suits them best. Some remain at one campus for all four years; others spend two years at one campus, then transition to another for their remaining two years. We call it the 2+2 plan.

Student Life
Each Penn State campus offers students a vibrant student life. With 1,200 clubs and organizations, there is something to meet all interests.

Academics
Penn State is in the top one percent of universities worldwide, offering a top-tier education across all majors, with access to expert faculty and unique academic experiences. Penn State offers more than 275 majors, with four-year degrees at all 21 campuses.

Athletics
Penn State has 31 Division I teams. Across all undergraduate campuses, there are more than 75 Division III sports. Club Sports teams compete in everything from aikido to ultimate Frisbee. Intramural sports happen year-round.

What sets Penn State apart
There is one Penn State made up of 21 campuses and over 700,000 grads around the world. While University Park is the largest campus, more than 30,000 students attend classes, do research, join clubs, and compete in team sports at all campuses. Many participate in the 2+2 plan as a way to complete the Penn State degree. After all, we are Penn State!

"Not every college gives undergraduate students the opportunity for thesis research; being able to do that definitely differentiates me from my friends and gives me an edge."
